The people who are launching Wales' first national LGBTQ magazine - during a pandemic

During the Covid-19 pandemic, LGBTQymru organised Wales' very first nationwide digital Pride event.

Proving to be a huge success and a benefit to the LGBT+ community, organisers are now releasing the first ever LGBT+ Welsh magazine to keep the community connected.

Planned to be released in February during LGBT+ History Month, the magazine promises content that is truly representative of the stories, experiences and realities of all LGBT+ communities here in Wales.

"Following on from the virtual pride, we realised it brought people together in a way that had never been done before," Chair of LGBTQymru and Editor of the magazine, Bleddyn Harris told WalesOnline.

“As a committee we realised that wanted to keep this going and something that was sustainable which brought a diversity of thought, experience and content and we realised there’d never been an LGBT+ specific magazine to Wales."

The magazine promises to embody four themes: life, community, health and well being and culture.

Partnered with various LGBT+ organisations throughout Wales, including the likes of HIV prevention organisation Fast Track Cardiff and Vale, the magazine hopes to celebrate and raise issues within the four themes.

“It’s a celebration of who we are. That’s so important, because when people talk about the LGBT+ community, in context, is usually something negative," Bleddyn added.

“We want to flip the script on that and celebrate who we are, this is why we’re proud and reminding people this is why we need to continue to be proud.

"Nationally we don’t have a large representation of who we are. I hope this magazine gives back the identities of the queer communities in Wales."

Post the first issue being released, the organisation is welcoming LGBT+ contributors all over Wales to submit articles. Available online and completely free, the magazine will be bilingual. People can subscribe for updates now via the website LGBTQymru.wales.
