Following a 111-94 victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday, the Boston Celtics travelled to New Orleans to take on Zion Williamson and the Pelicans tonight in attempt to extend their winning streak to three games. Yet, that winning streak would hit a quick stop as the Jaylen Brown-less Celtics were outlasted by the Pelicans, 115-109.
In classic Boston fashion as of late, the Celtics found themselves attempting to fight back from a second-half double-digit lead, down by as many as 17 in the fourth. Though the deficit was cut to just three in the final minute, missed opportunities down the stretch and a Marcus Smart ejection decided Boston’s fate.

Outside of the Celtics clearly missing Brown, the story of tonight’s game was the debut of Evan Fournier, who the Celtics acquired from the Orlando Magic on Thursday before the trade deadline. For Fournier, his debut was definitely one to remember — or one to forget. The newly acquired Celtic went scoreless in 33 minutes of action, shooting 0-of-10 from the field.
Jayson Tatum finished with 34 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists, it wasn’t enough to hold off the 53 combined points of fellow Blue Devils, Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, including a smooth midrange jumper for Ingram over Tatum in the final minute.
The Celtics will look to bounce back on Wednesday at home against the Dallas Mavericks.
