The Pelicans got roasted for wishing Anthony Davis a happy birthday

Anthony Davis turned 26 years old on Monday, and the New Orleans Pelicans found themselves in a tough spot.

The Pelicans had wished every player on their roster a happy birthday on social media when that particular birthday came around. They couldn’t just ignore Davis’ birthday because that would become a story in itself. After all, that strategy already backfired when the Pelicans removed Davis from their intro video.

It was a lose-lose scenario, but the Pelicans social team made the right call on Monday. They put the awkwardness of the trade demand and tampering aside and wished Davis a happy birthday. They even used an emoji — albeit one less emoji than E’Twaun Moore, Jason Smith or Elfrid Payton got.

The Pelicans were well aware that the mentions were going to be brutal. And they were! Fans roasted the Pelicans for the tweet.

And that continued 135 times over. The replies did not disappoint.

But can you imagine if the Pelicans had decided to not wish Davis a happy birthday? That pettiness would have owned the NBA news cycle for a day. Stephen A. Smith would have a heated rant about the disrespect. It would have been bad.

Good on the Pelicans for taking the high road with this one.
