Michael Gow directs George Bizet’s opera set on the shores of Ceylon. The Australian playwright and director brings to life the story of a trade where men count pearls above lives and livelihoods. Two men swear loyalty to one other, but duel with duty and temptation, jealousy, resulting in snap decisions and regret.
Guillaume Tourniaire conducts the opera, which includes the famous Pearlfishers duo. Ekaterina Siurina and Stacey Alleaume star as Léïla and Pavol Breslike and Nikhil Navkal as Nadir and are joined by the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra and the Opera Australia chorus. The glorious set and costumes are designed by Robert Kemp.
