The Patriots are trying to make another quarterback a wide receiver

What do you do if you can’t make it as a wide receiver as a Patriot? Apparently, it’s turn into a wide receiver. That’s what New England is doing with Danny Etling. It makes sense. Etling is fast . . . at least he was really fast in the preseason last year.

At this point receiver and tight end could be the easiest place to land on the Patriots roster. It’s their thinnest positions. Etling isn’t really shifty so he’s not an Edelman type.

The next move for Etling will be to be a special teams standout. The more things a player can do, the more likely it is that Bill Belichick will keep them around. Maybe the Patriots are going to make Etling the new Taysom Hill as NFL.com’s Jeremy Bergman predicted. It’s either that or Etling will get cut, but the beginning of training camp has been kind of slow, so this is new now.
