The Party's Just Beginning trailer shows Karen Gillan make directorial debut

Former Doctor Who star and Hollywood actress Karen Gillan is now in the director's chair for a new drama film.

This new exclusive trailer for Mirror Online shows Gillan's new film The Party's Just Beginning - that she also wrote - which has already been nominated for a Scottish BAFTA.

Set in the bleak Scottish winter, the sarcastic and whip-smart Liusaidh (Karen Gillan) is spiralling into a mid-twenties crisis full of alcohol and wild behaviour.

Filling her days and nights with sexual liaisons, unhealthy food and binge drinking, she’s plagued by visions of her best friend Alistair (Matthew Beard) throwing himself from a bridge.

Haunted by the bittersweet memories of the time spent with her friend, Liusaidh is adrift until a chance encounter with a stranger from out of town (Lee Pace).

Gillan examines mental health and gender roles in the comedy-drama, which also stars Victoria and Abdul star Paul Higgins.

The talented Scottish actress will return for a role in Jumanji: The Next Level and is also expected to reprise her role as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

It's been a big year for the star as Nebula played a vital part in the highest-grossing film of all time, Avengers Endgame, which was released in cinemas worldwide earlier this year.

What will Ms Gillan do next?

The Party's Just Beginning is released in UK cinemas December 1 and on demand on December 11, 2019.
