New hyper local data from Public Health Wales shows the number of coronavirus cases and the proportion in relation to population.
According to data extracted on the morning of Thursday, October 22, The wards with the highest rates of the virus are Skewen and Jersey Marine (513 per 100,00), Neath Abbey (325) and Aberavon (246).

What does the data actually mean?
It is important to remember that this data is volatile because it covers such small areas. Where an area has a very small population, even one positive case can push the cases per 100,000 figure up significantly.
Therefore it's important to be cautious from drawing too many conclusions directly from the information.
For example, in Neath Port Talbot, Sandfields and the Dulais Valley have almost exactly the same number of cases per 100,000 of population (193 and 191 respectively).
But Sandfields has 19 actual cases and Dulais Valley has 10. This is because Sandfields has more people living in it. This means one new case in Dulais Valley will increase the rate per 100,000 by more than one new case in Sandfields.
