The Park in Carrickmines gets green light for 'major' extension plans with some strict An Bord Pleanála conditions

One of Ireland's largest institutional property investors has had its plans for an extension to a 'mammoth' south Dublin development approved.

IPUT has been given the green light for the huge extension at The Park in Carrickmines but An Bord Pleanála has listed a set of conditions which means the cost of the project could increase.

One of the conditions for the controversial €75m "mammoth development" - which was worried would have a negative impact on M50 traffic - is that Ballyogan Link Road will remain operational prior to the new development known as Quad 3.

Quad 3 will comprise of retail warehousing, neighbourhood retail, food & beverage outlets, a leisure and entertainment space and a 7-screen cinema as well as additional offices.

But, ABP has upheld the council's decision to restrict the number of seats in the cinema to 900.

The Quad will be centered around a new landscaped urban park with direct pedestrian access to the Luas.

A spokesperson for The Park in Carrickmines said they were "delighted to announce that we have been granted planning permission to extend and develop our major out of town scheme".

They added: "The planning permission will allow us the opportunity to create a neighbourhood shopping and leisure experience across all three phases of The Park and is a major step forward in realising our ambition to reinforce The Park as the leading out of town retail destination in Dublin."

The Park already operates eight food and beverage outlets including: McDonald's, Costa Coffee, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Barry & Browne, Brown Cow, Subway, BB's and the Vanilla Pod Eatery.
