Over 10 years ago, fans said goodbye to The Office. The American adaptation of the series ran for 9 seasons and was beloved because of how much Michael Scott loved Dunder Mifflin. Even if he was a bad manager. Now, we’re getting The Paper and god it looks amazing.
The idea of the show, based on the new trailer, is that the documentary crew who filmed the original series found a new subject. Remember how the crew debuted the show and we even saw them break into the documentary when Pam (Jenna Fischer) was crying about Jim (John Krasinski)? Maybe, in universe, the same crew also filmed the team at the Pawnee Parks and Recreation department.
Point is that the same docu-crew is filming a new crew in The Paper. Starring Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key, and The Office star Oscar Nuñez, the setting is at a newspaper instead of at a paper company. Get it?
The series is described as follows: “The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch in the Emmy Award-winning series The Office find a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it.”
Frankly, watching this trailer made me realize how much I’ve missed the Greg Daniels touch with workplace comedies. I love revisiting shows like The Office and my favorite show of all time is Parks and Recreation and while I can rewatch those time and time again, watching the trailer for The Paper delighted me because it meant that I had the chance to have new episodes to watch and explore!
Nuñez will be playing the same character from The Office, so Oscar Martinez is in both shows and so maybe we’ll see some other favorites down the line but for now, the trailer for The Paper is exactly what I needed. Even if this time around is in OHIO.
