The Paper’s early season 2 renewal might reassure The Office fans that they finally have a good spin-off series

Domnhall Gleeson stands in front of a sign for the Toledo Truth Teller newspaper.
  • Peacock has renewed The Paper for a second season ahead of its premiere
  • All ten episodes of The Paper will be released on September 4
  • The show's early renewal could be a good early indicator of its quality

The Paper arrives on Peacock on September 4 (and on Binge in Australia), but it has already been renewed for season 2.

The spin-off to hit NBC series The Office has left some fans feeling apprehensive, but the fact the network feels it's season two worthy could suggest that it's the follow up we've been waiting for.

Unlike the original The Office, Peacock's The Paper follows a newspaper and not a paper company. Nevertheless it's a clever connection and links the two together without regurgitating the same setting.

There's a brand new cast too, with the exception of Oscar Nunez, who reprises his role as Oscar Martinez, Dunder Mifflin's former accountant.

If you haven't seen the trailer yet, check it out below.

What do we know about The Paper season 2?

Not much, beyond the fact it's happening. The Paper season 2 was announced on The Today Show by stars Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore, who lead the spin-off.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Greg Daniels has already started ideas for the second season and the network wanted to keep up the momentum.

The publication added that: "The early renewal will also give the show a regular cadence, so it can premiere same time next year."

The Office ran for 9 seasons and went on to become an iconic name in comedy. Naturally, The Paper has a tough act to follow but NBC's confidence in a second season has reassured me too.

With all episodes dropping imminently, we won't have to wait long to make up our minds. But I'm definitely making it my weekend binge watch.
