The Panthers released Cam Newton, and Patriots fans were immediately interested

The Carolina Panthers hadn’t even released Cam Newton when New England Patriots fans began to usher him into the starting job under Bill Belichick.

The Panthers are expected to release Newton on Tuesday, according to multiple reports. And while the Patriots have major cap issues and would have trouble offering Newton a competitive contract, New England’s fans felt Belichick would somehow land Newton.

Why? Well, Belichick does a good job helping players turn around their careers at a low-point. Certainly, Newton is in need of some revitalization. And so the folks on Twitter immediately drew connections between Newton and Belichick, who currently has quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham, Brian Hoyer and Cody Kessler on the Patriots’ roster.

It’s more likely that Newton lands with the Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins or Washington Redskins (because of former Panthers coach Ron Rivera). It may be unlikely to see Newton head to New England. But it would be a fascinating trio with Belichick, Newton and Josh McDaniels.
