The Panthers released Cam Newton and everyone had the same joke about the Patriots

The Carolina Panthers are cutting Cam Newton on Tuesday, according to multiple reports. Bill Belichick seems to need a quarterback. Twitter can put two and two together.

The New England Patriots look thin at the position for the first time in 20 years, with quarterback Tom Brady headed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And though the Patriots have practically no cap space, folks are imagining a scenario where Belichick scoops up Newton, who is in dire need of a revitalizing year, something the coach has made a specialty. He tends to nab a player when they’re at a low-point and helps them bring life back to their career.

At this point, the Los Angeles Chargers seem like a better (and more likely) landing spot for Newton. Heck, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Denver Broncos might be better, too. But Twitter couldn’t help themselves with jokes connecting Newton’s release to Belichick.

The truth is that it would be exhilarating to see Belichick, Newton and Josh McDaniels work together during the 2020 season.
