The Padres hilariously rickrolled Red Sox fans during a ‘Sweet Caroline’ singalong

Anyone who has ever attended a Boston Red Sox road game likely noticed that Red Sox fans are everywhere. They have fans in every city. They travel well.

And if you’re a small-market (and struggling) team like the San Diego Padres, Red Sox fans can basically take over the stadium. On Sunday, though, the Padres production team at Petco Park managed to hit back at the large Red Sox contingent in epic fashion.

During a mid-inning promotion, the Padres held a stadium-wide karaoke to the Fenway Park staple “Sweet Caroline.” But the joke was on all those Red Sox fans waiting to belt out “Sweeeeeeet Car-roooo-linnnnne!”

Just before the chorus, the video and audio quickly switched to the Rick Astley song, “Never Gonna Give You Up,” which had to be one of the best uses of the rickroll meme I have ever seen. Take a bow, Padres.

Those Red Sox fans really expected the Padres to play “Sweet Caroline” during a Red Sox series — they deserved to be rickrolled for that.

SO GOOD, SO GOOD, indeed.
