The out of contract Premiership XI as Rangers and Celtic free agents among stars putting clubs on transfer alert

With the Premiership season approaching it's conclusion, there is no doubt that clubs will be stepping up their planning for next season.

However, there are plenty of top players who have not been tied up on new deals as we move closer to the summer window.

It's a chance for clubs to snap up a big name in a cut price deal with money tight during the pandemic, and there is no doubt these players will have plenty of admirers.

From Steven Gerrard to Tommy Wright managers up and down the top flight have big calls to make in the coming months.

Record Sport piece together the best Xi of out of contract players.

GK - Ofir Marciano (Hibs)

The Israel goalkeeper has knocked back a new deal and will leave Easter Road after a memorable half decade in the capital. Having lifted the Scottish Cup and won promotion to the Premiership with the Hibees, he has been a stand-out again this season the 31-year-old will no doubt have plenty of suitors as he looks to find his next club.

CB -Declan Gallagher (Motherwell)

(SNS Group / SFA)

The Motherwell skipper has been a key player for both club and country this term despite being plagued by injury. With his contract coming to an end, clubs down south plus Aberdeen, Celtic and Dundee United have all been linked with a move.

CB - Tommie Hoban (Aberdeen)

(SNS Group)

The defender made his Watford loan deal permanent last summer but his contract at Pittodrie is coming to an end. With new boss Stephen Glass arriving at the club the 27-year-old will have to make an impression to earn an extension despite being ever present at the back this term.

RB - Marcus Fraser (St Mirren)

(SNS Group)

The right-back has impressed during his season in Paisely as Jim Goodwin's side narrowly missed out on a top six finish. Having scored the winner against Inverness he could be hitting form at the right time to attract interest.

LB - Callum Booth (St Johnstone)

The 29-year-old has impressed this season while operating in a back five for Callum Davidson's side, operating mainly as a wing-back for the Betfred Cup winners. The former Dundee United man has already stated he would like to remain in Perth, but a move could be on the cards as we enter the final Premiership run in.

CM- Allan Campbell (Motherwell)

The driving midfielder is vital for the Steelmen at both ends of the park, but the academy graduate is now entering the final few months of his deal. Having previously been linked with Millwall and Hibs, expect interest to be ramped up again. However, the Fir Park club have put a deal on the table for the 22-year-old.

CM - Jackson Irvine (Hibs)

The Australia cap has made a big impression in the capital since signing for Jack Ross' side in January, however an agreement is yet to be reached to extend the short-term deal. The manager has stated he is confident a new contract can be agreed for the Europa League charge next term.

RM- Chris Burke (Kilmarnock)

While Kilmarnock have struggled this season it would be a major blow to lose veteran winger Chris Burke this summer. There is no doubt clubs will be keeping an eye on the situation with the former Rangers man as he looks to help Tommy Wright's men avoid the drop.

LM - Niall McGinn (Aberdeen)

(SNS Group)

The Northern Ireland cap is in the same boat as Hoban and will have to impress Stephen Glass if he is to remain in the Granite City. However, his goal in the Scottish Cup against Livingston will have caught the eye of the new gaffer - and maybe a few other clubs.

ST - Jermain Defoe (Rangers)

The English striker has previously stated he wants to play in front of the Ibrox fans again before leaving the club, but after the Premiership title win there has been no news over the future of the striker.

Steven Gerrard has a wealth of attacking options at his disposal and the time could be right for the 38-year-old to leave Glasgow following the successful campaign.

ST - Leigh Griffiths (Celtic)

Griffiths' Celtic contract is officially due to expire in 2022 but interim boss John Kennedy revealed there will soon be talks over whether he will remain at the club beyond this season.

Kennedy has said there was a clause in the striker's contract that could allow him to leave for free if he wishes. With talk of a move to Aberdeen or Hibs clubs will be lining up to try and tempt the striker to exercise that option.
