The Ospreys' heartwarming goodwill gesture to help struggling Welsh rugby clubs cope with coronavirus crisis

The Ospreys will donate £58,000 worth of kit to clubs in their region in an effort to ease the financial strain on grassroots rugby following the termination of semi-professional and amateur rugby.

Powerbrokers at the Swansea-based region took the decision after the WRU announced the season was over at every level from the Indigo Group Welsh Premiership downwards.

The gifted kit can be used as each club sees fit, whether it’s using it, selling or raffling it in order to raise funds, or donating it to families who may be struggling.

“There are more important things in life than rugby, but the values the sport instills in us is what sets rugby and its communities apart. It is times like these when those values come to the fore,” declared Ospreys managing director Andrew Millward.

“It is essential that we come together in times of need to support and be kind to each other. It is why there was no hesitation or doubt that this is the right thing to do.

“The clubs have supported us through thick and thin, and this is an opportunity to show our gratitude.

“The Ospreys hope this gift of kit will help relieve some of the financial strain that the clubs in the region will no doubt experience over the coming months.”

The Ospreys are drawing up plans to contact clubs from across the region and work out the logistic side of things with players, staff, and volunteers ready to deliver the kit.
