The Orioles made a powerful gesture on Zoom for Trey Mancini amid cancer diagnosis

The Baltimore Orioles are doing what they can to show support for Trey Mancini, who is fighting against stage 3 colon cancer, during the coronavirus pandemic. The team got together on a Zoom call, with everyone showing a sign of support for their teammate: “#F16HT.” Mancini wears No. 16, and so that has become the message of solidarity for his battle against cancer.

He made the announcement about his diagnosis on April 13, and reflected upon his experience with cancer on The Players’ Tribune. It must be agonizing for the Orioles to be making such limited contact with Mancini. But that’s also what makes this gesture so lovely.

Mancini doesn’t anticipate playing this season, if baseball comes back. But he’s looking forward to next season. Keep up the #F16HT, Trey.
