The original Legendary bird Pokémon will be coming to Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra DLC

This Articuno won't be an Ice-type (Picture: Pokémon)

The best birds from the original Pokémon game will be making an appearance in The Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos all seem to have distant cousins living in the Galar region (where Sword and Shield take place) and you're going to be able to catch them.

These three legendary birds appeared in Pokemon Red and Blue and they were easy to find, but a nightmare to catch.

If one of these beautiful birds is your favourite Pokémon, you are in for a treat.

Zapdos has had a bit of a makeover (Pokémon)

Later in the year when Sword and Shield's expansion The Crown Tundra releases, the birds will be in the game but they will look different.

They will be a brand new type and each has incredibly powerful moves to use in battle, (remember how broken Blizzard was in Red?)

The Galarian variant of Articuno will no longer be an Ice-type, it will instead be a Psychic/Flying-type.

Moltres is no longer purely a fire bird, but will instead be a Dark/Flying-type.

Moltres certainly looks... angry (Pokémon)

Galarian Zapdos will no longer be an electric-type Pokémon, instead, it will be a Fighting/Flying-type. This time, Zapdos almost resembles a prickly dodo.

While they will be different types, they will still resemble the original Pokémon since these ones are migratory versions.

The first expansion for Sword and Shield, The Isle of Armour, will be released on June 17.

The next one, which will bring these legendary birds back, will be released in autumn.
