The opening fixture omen to get Chelsea fans excited ahead of Brighton clash

Chelsea fans now know the fixture list for the upcoming 2020/21 season.

The Blues squad gets an extra two days rest to the majority of their Premier League rivals, due to their involvement in the Champions League at the end of the current season.

Frank Lampard and his squad face an away game to start off, with a trip to the Amex Stadium to take on Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday, September 14, kick-off at 8:00 pm.

It is a fixture that the Blues will expect to get off to a winning start in, as the club look to build on a successful campaign in 2019/20.

The match will also give the chance to any new arrivals, including Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, to have their first taste of Premier League football as they look to settle into the intensity of the division.

There is one favourable omen about the opening fixtures that could increase the excitement of Chelsea fans ahead of the new season.

The last two times that the Blues have opened their season on a Monday night was in 2014 and 2016, both seasons ended in Chelsea being crowned as Premier League Champions.

In 2014, Chelsea opened their campaign with a 3-1 win over Burnley at Turf Moor, while the Blues started the 2016/17 campaign with a 2-1 home win over West Ham United.

Should they get off to a successful start against Brighton, Chelsea will look to continue the winning run when they face reigning Champions Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in the next fixture.

After that, the Blues have three so-called easier games against West Brom, Crystal Palace and Southampton, before travelling to Manchester United at the end of October.

Positive results in these matches may lead to Chelsea fans thinking that history could repeat itself again in the 2020/21 season.
