The Open 2019: Henrik Stenson snaps club on knee as frustration boils over after shank

Henrik Stenson snapped his club in frustration after a shank at The Open

The Swede reacted furiously when the ball viciously took off right of his target on the 17th hole in the final major of the year at Royal Portrush.

Faced with 143 yards to the hole and smack, bang in the middle of the fairway, Stenson was incredulous at his error.

After breaking the club in two, he brought the two pieces back behind his neck, contemplating his next shot.

He would eventually make bogey, taking him back to -2 for the tournament in a tie for 17th place.

The reaction sparked endearment from fans, who could relate to his blunder.

It also brought back memories of Patrick Reed’s own club snap at the US Open at Pebble Beach last month when he duffed a chip from just off the green, failing to advance it on to the putting surface.

Shane Lowry continues to lead The Open, five shots clear of Tommy Fleetwood as the Irishman looks to delight the home fans at Royal Portrush.
