The Open 2018 - LIVE: Latest scores, leaderboard, news and updates from Carnoustie with Rory McIlroy in contention

The 147th Open Championship is well underway.

The oldest tournament in golf returns to Carnoustie, one of the most fearsome courses on the rotation, for what promises to be a true test of the golfing elite. The weather won't isn't playing ball though. After a hot summer the Angus course is baked to a crisp giving even the tour's shortest hitters a chance to blast their way around this week. But watch out for those fairway traps.

American Kevin Kisner is the leader after day one after an opening 66 with the best and brightest in the world game all in the chasing pack. That includes 14-time Major winner Tiger Woods who started on a tear before the conditions reigned him late. Will he move into contention today?

We will have all the latest news, scores, updates and more from our man on the course, Ed Malyon, plus analysis from elsewhere right here.

-8 Kevin Kisner (14),
-6 Zach Johnson (67)
-5 Tommy Fleetwood (65), Tony Finau (5), Zander Lombard (4)

16:49
A bit of confusion on the 18th green. Erik Van Rooyen dislodges his marker after clumsily dropping his putter, but there is no penalty.

He strokes in the par putt to finish with a 71 and at -4 for the tournament. A good start for the debutant, who will look to push on tomorrow on moving day.

16:46
Tommy Fleetwood defied the drizzle with an excellent 65.

Ed Malyon spoke to the elated Englishman after his round:

16:43
More strong short game play from Jordan Spieth. His putt from off the green feeds down to the hole and it is a tap-in par.
16:41
A good round from Rory McIlroy in challenging conditions today.

He spoke with Ed Malyon soon after stepping off the course:

16:37
As forecast, the weather has settled down and the course is playing beautifully. Birdies to be had, you feel.
16:36
Kevin Kisner has clear water at the top of the leaderboard. A two on the 13th, his fourth birdie of the day, takes him to -7, and he follows it up with a four on the 14th to extend that lead.

16:31
Once again it isn't happening for Justin Rose at The Open. A birdie putt is left of the hole. Par.

Jordan Spieth recovers well to also make par after exploring plenty of the 6th hole.
16:25
A lovely moment for Sandy Lyle. In his 43rd and final Open, the 1985 Champion takes the applause of the crowd as he crosses the Barry Burn on to the eighteenth green. He finishes with a 76, his final Open shot a superb birdie putt.

Farewell.

16:19
A birdie on the par-three eighth for Pat Perez. The burly American veteran gets to -4. His best major finish came at the USPGA Championship in 2005 when he finished in a tie for sixth place.
16:17
Another superb approach from Tony Finau. He looks very calm and is striking the ball beautifully. Birdie chance on the third.

Jordan Spieth's putter is going nicely. A birdie at the fifth follows one at the third and he is now -1.

16:08
Birdie for Tony Finau. He joins Tommy Fleetwood at five-under, one behind Kevin Kisner and Zach Johnson at the top of the leaderboard.
16:05
No birdie for Jon Rahm at the 4th as his putt slides past the hole, but Rickie Fowler finds the cup once more.

Three birdies in the first four holes for the popular 29-year-old.
15:59
Right at the flag on two from Tony Finau. Good line, about ten feet short. A birdie chance.
15:53
Birdies for Jon Rahm and Rickie Fowler on three.

They join four others at -3.
15:52
Time for a leaderboard update:

-6 Zach Johnson (67), Kevin Kisner (11)
-5 Tommy Fleetwood (65)
-4 Rory McIlroy (69), Erik Van Rooyen (15), Tony Finau (1), Zander Lombard (15.54)
15:45
Masterful stuff with the wedge on the third from Jordan Spieth.
15:34
Kevin Kisner can't save his par. Another bogey, and we once again have a tie at the top.
15:34
Hideki Matsuyama had a horrible hole, driving in to the rough and knocking his second out of bounds.

A triple-bogey plunges him to +4. Barring something unforeseen he won't make the cut.

15:32
Tiger Woods hit a stunning iron on to the 18th green and is in superb position to finish with a birdie and under par after two rounds for the first time at a major since the 2015 Masters.

He takes his time. Two practice strokes. Left-to-right, and no...

Woods pushes it right, and it is two 71s. Level par.
