A fan was ejected from The Open at Carnoustie after attempting to put off Tiger Woods at the 18th tee.
A spectator in a hospitality box was heard screaming just as Woods, bidding for a first major win in five years, went through his backswing.
Some witnesses claimed they shouted: “Free Palestine.” The offending fan then made an offensive gesture at Woods as the former world number 1 seethed.
Chasing a 15th major title and his first since the 2008 US Open, Woods began the final round at Carnoustie four shots off the lead shared by defending champion Jordan Spieth, Kevin Kisner and Xander Schauffele.
But as his rivals felt the pressure of trying to claim one of golf's biggest prizes, Woods looked close to his imperious best to move out in front in impressive fashion.
Birdies at the fourth and sixth took Woods to the turn in 34 and, at seven under par, one shot ahead of playing partner Francesco Molinari and Spieth, who had double-bogeyed the sixth after hitting his second shot into a gorse bush.
But a double bogey of his own on six and a bogey five on 11 and 12 put pay to Woods' chances of lifting the Claret Jug for a fourth time.
A par four at the last, following the spectator's intervention, saw him sign for a level par 71 and place in the top 10.
