The only times you will be allowed to meet people from outside your household or bubble when new national lockdown measures come into force

Everybody in England will be under a new lockdown, the Prime Minister has announced today.

People will be banned from travelling or leaving their home unless for a limited number of exceptions and all non-essential businesses will be told to shut.

You will not be allowed to meet people who are not in your household or bubble, as is already the case in Greater Manchester following the introduction of Tier 3 measures.

Any household mixing between households will be banned from 12.01am on Thursday - indoors and outdoors.

But there are a couple of exceptions.

Two people from two households will be allowed to meet in a public open space - but this does not apply to a private garden.

If you exercise outdoors, you will be allowed to go with people from your household.

You will be allowed to exercise with one person not in your household - as long as you are on your own.

Unlike in the first lockdown, there will be no limit to the number of times a day you can exercise.

The rules around support bubbles and childcare - which allow informal childcare for those aged under 14 years old - remain the same.
