‘The only hotel in Manahawkin too’: Woman drives two hours to Holiday Inn for New Jersey wedding. Then she finds out her $260 room was canceled

A woman books a room at Holiday Inn months in advance to attend a wedding in Manahawkin, New Jersey. However, the front desk attendant gives her bad news when she tries to check in.

In a video with over 23,000 views, TikToker Shannon Miller (@shannon_mmiller) sits in her car after arriving at the hotel.

“I just drove two hours to a wedding,” she laments. “I just got to the hotel, which I booked back in August.”

But when she tries to check in, a worker tells her that “someone” canceled her reservation.

Why did Holiday Inn cancel her reservation?

Miller tells the front desk worker that she didn’t cancel her reservation and asks for more details.

“Who? And when? And why?” she asks. In the caption, she explains that there were no more rooms available for her to book. Plus, the Holiday Inn is the only hotel in the town where the wedding was held.

“I’m probably driving back right after the wedding for two hours,” she says. “So shout out to Holiday Inn Manahawkin, New Jersey. You can eat a bowl of pubes.”

In a series of comments, Miller says that she didn’t receive an email informing her of the cancellation either. She clarifies that she called the hotel directly to book the wedding block back in August.

“I ended up driving home! A few girls at the wedding did offer for me to stay in their rooms, though, which was nice!” she writes in a comment.

She also notes that the room rate was $260, questioning the high price. According to NPR, the cost of travel expenses, including hotels, has gone up by 20% since the pandemic. Viewers say they’ve noticed the trend, too.

“People have been thinking that I’ve been crazy, but I’ve been saying this whole year that hotels are all rivaling four star hotel prices,” one writes.

“That holiday inn is SO expensive,” another says.

What did viewers think of the situation?

In the comments, viewers suggest Miller reach out to Holiday Inn corporate to complain.

“Definitely contact corporate, and you have proof if your reservation! Thats BS!” one says.

In a comment, Holiday Inn’s official TikTok account writes, “We’re sorry to hear about this, and would like to look into it with you. Can you send us a DM on Instagram or Facebook?” Miller did not respond to the comment.

Others say they experienced similar situations when checking into hotels.

“So trash! I literally called and booked a room last minute, paid and arrived a few hours later and went to check in with all my confirmation in my email for holiday inn to say it wasn’t!” a commenter shares. “Almost slept in my car before the lady came out and said someone ‘didn’t show’ in tears after driving hours and it was midnight.”

“Sheraton in Las Vegas did this to me one time. So anyone saying hotels don’t do this is wrong- hotels definitely do this crap and left me stranded on a Friday night with my 3 kids (I was driving to Colorado from CA so I wasn’t there to party, I was there to sleep). They were so rude- I never use that brand hotel chain anymore,” another writes.

“I go to state darts every year. Two years ago, we called to ask if we could check in early and were notified ‘someone’ canceled our reservation. This was the day before and literally spent HOURS finding something,” a third says.
