Jamie Redknapp does not think Arsenal star Kieran Tierney would get into Tottenham’s starting XI ahead of Sergio Reguilon.
Arsenal host Spurs in the north London derby this afternoon desperately needing a win to keep pace with their rivals in the Premier League.
The Gunners come into the match in 10th place, seven points behind Spurs, who are seventh after a run of three straight league wins.
While Mikel Arteta’s side have struggled with consistency this season, the performances of Tierney have stood out at left-back.
However, former Spurs midfielder Redknapp still isn’t convinced the Scot is any better than Tottenham’s left-back Reguilon, although he has been impressed by Bukayo Saka.
“Obviously Spurs at the moment because they have a points advantage,” he replied when asked on Sky Sports which side were in the better position at the moment.
“When I look at the two teams, how many Arsenal players would necessarily get in this Spurs team? You look at the likes of Saka, Tierney - would you swap him for Reguilon? I’m not quite sure. It’s (Spurs) a very strong squad.
“The excitement for Spurs comes from Gareth Bale, Son and Kane - that gives you so much excitement. Going forward, they’ve been excellent, defensively they’ve made some errors, but in midfield I think they’ve made some good signings as well.
“Arsenal is one for the future, there’s excitement in terms of the young players coming through, but they’re 10 points off West Ham.
“When you look at the two squads; there’s not much between the two squads. I don’t think we should be saying this isn’t a strong Arsenal team, I just don’t think they’ve really hit form right now.
“I’m expecting better things as the season goes on from them.”
Arsenal are looking to extend their unbeaten run to five matches this afternoon, but they are beaten 2-0 by Spurs in the return fixture in December.
The Gunners beat Olympiacos 3-1 in Greece on Thursday and have a full squad to pick from for the derby.
Spurs have won their last five matches in all competitions following their 2-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in midweek.
Jose Mourinho’s squad should be well-rested after the Spurs boss made seven changes for the Europa League last-16 tie.
