The online kindness challenge that gave police in Stockport a sweet surprise

A young girl brought a smile to the faces of police officers in Stockport by giving them a massive haul of treats.

The youngster, called Freya, called into Cheadle Heath police station on Wednesday to leave a stash of chocolates, buns and cakes for officers.

The kind act was part of a growing online movement that aims to encourage people to leave gestures of thanks for emergency service workers.

A Facebook group called 'Hit the Ambulance Gamers' has more than 50,000 members across the country.

It aims to 'hit' the emergency services with kindness.

As well as safely leaving treats out for police, ambulance and fire crews, it also encourages people to smile and wave at emergency workers, and let to let them jump the queue if they are seen buying food on shift.

The gifts were left by a young girl called Freya (gmp)

Sharing the news on their social media pages, police in Stockport wrote: "Yesterday a lovely young girl called Freya came to Cheadle Heath Police Station with her mum carrying a large amount of chocolates, buns and cakes to give to officers.

"There is a Facebook group called 'wittheambulance gamers' and their aim is to leave treats on service vehicle windscreens as a thank you for all they do. They are leaving them on the windscreens of ambulances, fire engines and police vehicles.

"Freya wanted to leave them on our police car windscreens but when she came to the police station she realised that all the vehicles are parked behind barriers so she couldn’t get access to them.

"Instead, she came into the front desk to hand them over.

"Thank you so much Freya, you truly made the Police of Stockport smile".
