The one word Alan Shearer used to describe Carlo Ancelotti amid his Chelsea and Everton records

Alan Shearer has described Carlo Ancelotti's achievements in management as "sensational" after naming him as one of the top ten managers in the Premier League era.

The Italian guided Chelsea to the Premier League title and FA Cup success in 2010 in his first season in charge in west London, in what was also his first campaign as a manager in English football.

He arrived at Stamford Bridge with a superb record in management, having won numerous titles domestically and in Europe with Juventus and AC Milan, while he has since gone on to win more with Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Ancelotti recently returned to the Premier League to take charge at Everton, and has helped the Toffees move up the table, after taking over with the Merseyside outfit struggling in the bottom half of the top flight.

And he has been named as one of the top ten managers in the Premier League era in a Match of the Day podcast featuring Ian Wright and Alan Shearer, who have both been full of praise for the Italian.

Wright said: “He didn’t need many games to achieve what he did with that Chelsea side because they were so good.

“Do Everton understand the calibre of many they’ve got - do Everton fans understand?”

In response, former Newcastle United striker Shearer said: “I think they do understand. In terms of how lucky Everton are to have someone of that ability tells you what must have been said to him to entice him into the club.

“When you look at his record, it is sensational wherever he’s been. He won the league with Chelsea and scored 103 goals in doing so.”
