The one thing Kyle Walker-Peters is targeting after Tottenham loan exit

Kyle Walker-Peters could be back on the pitch this weekend when Southampton make the trip to the capital to face West Ham.

Making his Saints debut earlier in the month when they lost at home against Burnley, he was forced to miss last Saturday's victory over Aston Villa due to a calf injury.

Having played very little at Spurs this campaign with Serge Aurier getting the nod at right-back, the injury setback was the last thing he needed as he looks to get some regular minutes under his belt.

Well, Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has now confirmed that the January signing is back to fitness and in contention for the weekend having trained alongside his teammates this week.

Jose Mourinho: I have no complaints about my players

"So far it looks good," said the Austrian, as reported by Southampton's official website. "Reddie [Nathan Redmond] is still out, so it will take maybe a little longer. But Walker-Peters is back in training.

"He's trained well this week. That's one more option we have."

Walker-Peters' loan move will give him the chance to feature week in, week out at Southampton between now and May, something he struggled to do at Tottenham.

Featuring for the England U21 side in the past, the 22-year-old has revealed that his spell at St Mary's could help him achieve his dream of representing Gareth Southgate's senior side.

"Definitely, because I think the main thing for a player my age is just playing," he told Sky Sports News.

"At Tottenham I had opportunities but I never really got a run and I think to establish yourself, to be considered for England, you need a run of games.

"Of course you need to play well, but once you are playing you are looked at a bit more.

"But yes competition for right-back is unbelievable. You've got Kieran Trippier, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kyle Walker. Reece James is playing well at Chelsea.

"I'm always trying to compare myself to those players because if I want to play I need to be just as good or better than them.

"It won't be easy but it's something I've definitely got my eye on."
