The one thing Jose Mourinho wants his Spurs team to stop doing

Spurs will be looking to start 2020 in style when they take on Southampton at St Mary's on New Year's Day.

Drawing at Norwich City in their last game after twice having to come from behind, it's imperative that the team get back to winning ways after falling five points behind Chelsea in the race for the top four.

However, it definitely won't be easy on the south coast after a few good results for Ralph Hasenhuttl's team over the past couple of weeks.

Stopping Danny Ings will be key and the Spurs team must ensure that they don't present the frontman with any chances as he will punish them on current form.

What to expect from Tottenham in the January transfer window

Both of Norwich's goals were extremely poor to concede from a Tottenham perspective last Saturday and head coach Jose Mourinho has stated that the players must stop presenting their opponents with gifts.

"It’s another difficult match and I will repeat that every time, the same answer for every match - there is no easy match, and Southampton are in a good moment with some good results," he told the club's official website.

"They drew today (Saturday, against Palace), but their run of results is good, the players are good.

"It’s going to be difficult if we have more gifts for our opponents. If we stop gifts, we can beat anyone.

"The way we play when we have the ball, we can beat anyone. But we have to stop the gifts, if not, it will always be difficult to win matches."
