The One Show's Alex Jones stunned as Elton John warns 'lay off the cocaine'

Elton John 's appearance on The One Show on Monday left host Alex Jones stunned.

The singer, 74, appeared on the BBC talk show to promote his new single with Rina Sawayama called Chosen Family.

But it was a question from a fan that led to the Rocket Man singer leaving Alex and co-host Michael Ball gobsmacked.

The pop icon, real name Reginald Dwight, was asked what advice he would give his younger self.

And his "I would say, lay off the cocaine" response left the hosts flabbergasted.

Michael replied: "Very sage advice", to which Elton responded with a cheeky grin: "Absolutely."

A shocked Alex approved his answer and commented: "I love it, I love it!"

Fans were also quick to joyously commend the star's answer.

Taking to Twitter, one user wrote: "Elton John’s advice to his younger self on #TheOneShow at quarter past seven on a Monday evening? “Lay off the cocaine”. Brilliant."

Another followed suit, writing: "Alex Jones's nervous laughter when Elton John mentioned cocaine on The One Show is my favourite thing. #TheOneShow"

And a third put: "Elton John gives zero f***s #theoneshow."

Elton's new song shares a powerful message and looks at the idea of having a chosen family through the lens of the LGBTQ+ community.

Elton and Rina's collaboration came about after the veteran singer heard the 30-year-old's song titledComme Des Garcons (Like the Boys).

Speaking about her song, Elton said: "I stopped in my tracks and thought, 'Who is this?'

"It just blew me away from the first listen. We've since become friends, and it's such a huge honour and a genuine thrill to be asked to duet with Rina. She is just an extraordinary talent."

Rina added: "The song means so much to both of us, and recording it together was such a special experience I will never forget."

Last month, Elton slammed the Vatican for being "hypocritical" in a furious tweet about gay marriage.

He accused the Vatican of hypocrisy because it had invested money in Rocketman, which tells the true story about the gay singer finding love and finally marrying David Furnish.
