The One Show's Alex Jones makes Janette Manrara and Aljaz Skorjanec 'baby news' blunder

Alex Jones suffered a "slightly awkward" blunder during the latest instalment of BBC's The One Show.

The Welsh presenter was interviewing Strictly Come Dancing stars Janette Manrara and Aljaz Skorjanec when she revealed she'd misinterpreted "baby news" from the couple.

Speaking to the professional dancers via video link, Alex told Janette and Aljaz about her mistake. The 43-year-old explained she hadn't read a story about a baby in the family correctly and her assumptions went from there.

She said: "Last week, all I saw, because I sort of skim-read, was 'baby news Aljaz and Janette!' and I was like 'oh they're having a baby, that's lovely news.'

"But you're not having a baby, they tell me?"

Explaining, an amused Aljaz responded: "No, my little sister she just gave birth to our beautiful little niece, so that's the baby news."

But that wasn't the full story, as Alex even sent a message of congratulations to the pair, who have been together for ten years, after seeing their newborn post about becoming an auntie and an uncle again on social media.

She said: "I sent a little message saying congratulations, which would have been ok because that still makes sense because of the sister, but I was like: 'Oh my god, is Janette going to do Strictly, how's it going to work?

"I mean I was way ahead. Slightly awkward."

The Strictly professionals were on the show alongside Emma Willis, who was another guest on the episode.

Discussing the difficulties of homeschooling, Emma said: "Babies are amazing, but homeschooling… Teachers are just my heroes at the minute."

The One Show continues weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
