The One Show's Alex Jones left devastated by sudden death of colleague

A tearful Alex Jones paid an emotional tribute to one of her One Show colleagues after they died suddenly at the weekend.

Welsh presenter Alex was once again at the helm of the hit BBC programme on Monday night and, just before the credits rolled, she took the time to pay tribute to Charlie Mott, the show's Senior Researcher, as you can watch in the video above taken from The One Show's Twitter.

Saying she and everyone at The One Show had been left devastated by his passing, Alex said: "Now before we go, we just want to pay tribute to one of our colleagues Charlie Mott who sadly died at the weekend.

"Everyone on the team is absolutely devastated, he was a huge talent and such good company.

"We miss him so much. Our thoughts are with his family and we are sending lots of love from all of us here. Goodnight."

The show then ended without the usual credit music, instead in silence before many viewers tweeted their condolences.

One wrote: "Thoughts and prayers are with the family of Charlie mott guys your colleague RIP CHARLIE," and someone who worked with Charlie posted: "I've just heard about Charlie Mott and in shocked and deeply saddened.

"One of THE nicest and hardest working, funniest people I worked with at The One Show. I'm so sorry to hear that his family have lost such lovely man from their lives."
