The one reason Manchester United fans want Mauricio Pochettino to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Tottenham fans will be waiting with bated breath to find out where Mauricio Pochettino goes next.

The Argentinian spent five-and-a-half largely successful years in N17, guiding Spurs to four consecutive to-four finishes in the Premier League and to the Champions League final last season.

And despite a poor start to this season, which resulted in his sacking, he is still well loved by supporters in the white half of north London.

There were numerous occasions during his Tottenham tenure when he was linked with leaving - most notably to Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho on Spurs' progress under him

Pochettino stayed loyal to Spurs, but now he is out of work he is sure to have his pick of projects when he does decide to return to management.

The links with the Manchester United job persist, with Pochettino highly regarded at Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains in situ for now, but with United in eighth in the Premier League table and six points off the top four, decisions could soon be made.

Particularly if United lose to Chelsea on Monday to fall nine points adrift of the Champions League spots.

Old Trafford is the 1/2 odds-on favourite to be Pochettino's next destination with Sky Bet and Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas believes there is one big reason why the United fans want to see Pochettino at the club - consistency.

In previewing the game at Stamford Bridge, Nicholas said: "Manchester United will have got some of their players fit during the break. They were excellent when they went to Manchester City twice, but they are showing no consistency. This is why people are still backing, and hoping for, Mauricio Pochettino to come in."
