Frank Lampard will have to wait at least another week for his first win as Chelsea head coach.
The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge by Leicester City yesterday.
The game couldn't have started better for Lampard's men, with home debutant Mason Mount stealing the ball from Wilfred Ndidi before slotting past Foxes goalkeeper Kasper Schemeichel for his first senior Blues goal.
Ndidi made amends for his mistake in the second half, when he powered a header from a James Maddison corner past Kepa Arrizabalaga to draw Leicester level in the game. The Foxes pushed to complete the turnaround, but the full time whistle blew with the score locked at 1-1.
Having started the game so well, Chelsea will look back on missed opportunities to increase their lead while they were on top in the first half. The most notable of them chances fell to former Leicester midfielder N'Golo Kante, who got on the end of a Olivier Giroud pull back.
However, as the Frenchman struck the ball that looked destined to nestle in the back of the net, a former teammate, Christian Fuchs put in a superb challenge to divert the ball for a corner.
Following the encounter, Fuchs has taken to social media to remind Kante of a key moment in the match.
Posting a video of the goal saving tackle, the 33-year-old wrote: "Tackle....Sorry @nglkante"
The Austrian defender was a late replacement for England international left back Ben Chilwell, who missed the game through injury.
Both Fuchs and Kante were key parts of the Leicester City squad that shocked the world by winning the Premier League title in 2016, and while Kante has since moved on, Fuchs has recently signed a new one-year deal to extend his stay at the King Power Stadium.
The two players may come up against each other again when Chelsea travel to Leicester for the return fixture early in the new year.
