The one player who can't wait for Mauricio Pochettino to be appointed Bayern Munich boss

Mauricio Pochettino is being heavily linked with a swift return to management with Bayern Munich, following his departure from Tottenham earlier this week.

The Argentine was sacked by Spurs on Tuesday after five and a half years in north London, with Tottenham confirming his departure less than 12 hours before Jose Mourinho was appointed as his replacement.

But Sky in Germany are reporting that Pochettino is being considered by Bayern Munich to take over as their next manager, with the Bundesliga giants still searching for a new boss following the departure of Niko Kovac earlier this month.

And there is one Bayern Munich player who would particularly benefit if Pochettino should take over.

Pochettino has previously worked with Philippe Coutinho during his time at Espanyol, and has been full of praise for the playmaker when he came up against him during the Brazilian's time at Liverpool.

Speaking about Coutinho back in 2013 when he was Southampton manager, Pochettino said: "As with most Brazilians, Philippe has a special magic in his feet. He has that same quality as Ronaldinho and Messi.

"Aside from the magic that he has, he also has an amazing work rate and that makes us doubt whether he fits the mould of a typical Brazilian player or a European one because his work ethic is outstanding."

And when Coutinho made a big-money move from Liverpool to Barcelona in 2018, Pochettino said he could understand why he would make such a switch.

"I know Philippe from when we brought him from Inter to Espanyol. I coached him for six months when he was 17," he said.

"We know that Barcelona for Brazilians is a special city. Obviously, for Philippe, after five years in Liverpool, where it's very cold and it rains a lot, and when you have your wife and children, it's difficult for a Brazilian to turn down a chance like this one."

It has not worked out as yet for Coutinho at Barcelona, with the Brazilian joining Bayern Munich on a season-long loan back in August, where he has scored two goals in 15 appearances so far this season.

But with Pochettino now being linked with the vacancy at Bayern Munich, he could now be reunited with Coutinho, who scored five goals in 16 appearances during a loan spell with Espanyol back in 2012.
