The one Liverpool place up for grabs as Jurgen Klopp considers Champions League options

When the Liverpool squad reconvene at their training camp in Spain on Monday, the countdown to Madrid will be on.

Just 12 days will stand between the Reds and their date with destiny in the Wanda Metropolitano against Tottenham.

The three-week break between the end of the Premier League season and the Champions League final isn't ideal in terms of maintaining match sharpness.

But the gap should enable Jurgen Klopp's walking wounded to regain full fitness.

The Reds boss expects Roberto Firmino to overcome the groin injury which forced the Brazil striker to sit out the previous three matches.

Andy Robertson will also benefit from being able to rest a niggling calf problem after the players were granted five days off this week.

With only midfielder Naby Keita (adductor) ruled out of the final, Klopp has an embarrassment of riches as his thoughts turn to how best to overcome Mauricio Pochettino's side.

The depth Liverpool possess was highlighted by the fact that the players on the bench against Wolves last weekend were Dejan Lovren , James Milner , Joe Gomez , Daniel Sturridge , Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain , Xherdan Shaqiri and Simon Mignolet .

As well as Firmino and Keita, Adam Lallana , Alberto Moreno and Rhian Brewster were also not involved.

But how many places in the starting line up for Madrid are genuinely up for grabs between now and the final?

Barring any unfortunate setbacks, it's difficult to see Klopp tampering with the backline which performed so well in the second leg of that remarkable semi-final fightback against Barcelona.

Liverpool winger sends emotional goodbye message to Reds ahead of Lazio move

Alisson Becker looks set to have Trent Alexander-Arnold , Virgil van Dijk , Joel Matip and Robertson operating ahead of him.

Lovren and Gomez will both have designs on Matip's centre-back spot but the former Cameroon international has flourished in the second half of the season and will take some shifting.

In terms of the frontline, if Firmino is fully fit then Klopp won't leave out a man he regards as “the engine” of his Liverpool team.

The only concern would be the fact that the former Hoffenheim frontman won't have played competitively for a full month since his brief outing at the Nou Camp but the Reds may look to hold a behind closed doors friendly prior to the final.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane , who shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, are nailed on starters.

As has been the case all season, the one real dilemma for Klopp is in midfield.

Liverpool could generate £100million from player sales this summer as Jurgen Klopp prepares for big transfer decisions

On recent form, Fabinho and captain Jordan Henderson simply have to start.

Combative and oozing confidence, Fabinho has been outstanding in recent months. His contribution in the holding role has freed up Henderson, who has enjoyed a new lease of life operating further forward.

That leaves Gini Wijnaldum and Milner fighting it out for the final spot in Klopp's 4-3-3 system.

Milner was preferred for the visit of Barcelona but it was two-goal Wijnaldum who helped inspire that miraculous fightback with his impact off the bench.

A year ago in Kiev, Liverpool fielded a midfield trio of Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum.

This time around one of them looks set for bench duty as Klopp looks to ensure this season of immense progress ends in glory.
