The one Leeds United player in line for Championship Team of the Year

Leeds United may be the best team in the Championship after 37 matches, but only one of their players has made the cut for the division’s team of the year.

It remains entirely unknown when, if ever, the official PFA selection will be made for the Team of the Season, but WhoScored.com have been keeping count.

Using statistics provided by Opta, the website has generated ratings out of 10 for players across the Championship and picked out a 4-4-2 formation for their best XI of the season.

It is Luke Ayling, he of three goals in his last five matches, who gets one of the nods at the heart of defence with a 7.3 rating for the campaign.

Two of Ayling’s three best displays for Leeds in 2019/20 came last month (wins over Hull City and  Bristol City), underlining his strong recent form.

Here is the rest of the league’s best XI for the season so far.

Goalkeeper: Marek Rodak 6.8

Defenders: Matty Cash 7.2; Shaun Hutchinson 7.4; Luke Ayling 7.3; Kristian Pedersen 7.2

Midfielders: Jed Wallace 7.3; Eberechi Eze 7.5; Matheus Pereira 7.3; Said Benrahma 7.4

Strikers: Ollie Watkins 7.3; Jarrod Bowen 7.4
