The one club who could stop Tottenham from signing Paco Alcacer - and it's not Borussia Dortmund

Harry Kane's injury could force Tottenham Hotspur into making a move in the January transfer window.

The striker limped off in the second half against Southampton on New Year's Day.

Kane injured himself after thinking he had equalised for the north London outfit, only to turn and see his effort ruled out for offside as the Lilywhites slumped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at St Mary's.

It's not been revealed as to how long Kane will be out of action for, but he has suffered a hamstring tear.

A statement posted on the club's official website reads: "Following assessment today (Friday), we can confirm that Harry Kane suffered a tear in his left hamstring during our New Year's Day fixture against Southampton.

"Our medical staff will continue to review the injury with treatment ongoing."

Shortly after this injury update came rumours that Borussia Dortmund striker Paco Alcacer has emerged as a potential contender to fill the gap up front for Jose Mourinho's side while the England international recovers.

The Spaniard has scored 23 goals in 37 games in the Bundesliga following his move from Barcelona in 2018.

Reports claim that Spurs are interested in signing the striker on loan for the remainder of the season.

However, despite Marca's claim that Alcacer has told Dortmund that he wants to leave the club following the arrival of Erling Braut Haaland from Red Bull Salzburg, it might not be easy for Spurs to do a deal.

And that's because of Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish media outlet claim that the La Liga side have already made contact with Alcacer and he is one of two centre forward options this months alongside Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani.

Interestingly, it's also claimed that Atletico are actively looking to cut their losses on Thomas Lemar which would enable them to fund a move for a new striker and it just so happens that Spurs have been linked with a loan move for the Frenchman.

But with the Lilywhites hoping to take Lemar on loan for the rest of the season with an option to buy in the summer, it could be that they miss out on signing Alcacer to cover for Kane.
