The one big problem Jose Mourinho must address at Tottenham

Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness has said Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho needs to address his “pedestrian” midfield following their defeat to Chelsea.

Spurs missed out on the chance to leapfrog their London rivals, and in the process move into the top four, as they lost 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Willian opened the scoring before doubling the lead from the penalty spot following Paulo Gazzaniga’s wild challenge on Marcos Alonso, with Son Heung-min sent off in the second half for kicking out at Antonio Rudiger.

And, speaking on Super Sunday, Souness feels Mourinho has a problem to address after seeing Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko overrun in midfield.

Jose Mourinho: I am 100% Tottenham

“From start to finish they (Chelsea) were fabulous,” Souness said.

“To a man they all did their job, they had too much football in midfield for a pedestrian midfield of Spurs, they just had too much football.

“They were quicker on the ball, quicker of thought. I can understand why Jose goes with Dier and Sissoko, he tried it against Bayern Munich. They’re defensive-minded, and when you’re against a very good team they’ll try to stop the opposition.

“But when you have the ball, you can’t keep giving it straight back to the opposition. Sooner or later, they’re going to hurt you, and I think that’s something he has to address, because the midfield of Chelsea has just dominated from start to finish.

“Too much football, too much invention, too much clever passing. They were just on another level.”
