The one Arsenal player in action amid coronavirus disruption and what he did behind closed doors

Mohamed Elneny was the only Arsenal player in action this weekend as Besiktas took on Istanbul rivals Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig.

With Arsenal's other loanees stationed across the English Football League, Ligue 1, Bundesliga II, Serie A and the Airtrcity League and the Ekstraklasa in Poland all their games were postponed.

Rather than suspending games amid the fears surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, the Super Lig decided to take their games behind closed doors.

As has been the case throughout this season for Elneny, he was in the thick of the action for Besiktas making his 28th appearance for the side in all competitions.

The game ended 0-0 but partnered alongside Atiba Hutchinson at the base of midfield, the pair played a vital role in shielding their backline from the dangerous Galatasaray attack. Radamel Falcao, Henry Onyekuru, Younes Belhanda and Sofiane Feghouli made up the Turkish giants' front four.

The Egyptian contributed with four interceptions, two clearances and a tackle front left side of the double-pivot as Hutchinson made three interceptions and two clearances himself.

Elneny's interventions were particularly key as he would drop back into his box to cut out dangerous crosses flashed back toward the penalty spot.

There were times, however, when the distancing between himself and Hutchinson just wasn't right which allowed Belhanda to get on the ball on the half-turn and start one of many Galatasaray attacks.

Failing to break the deadlock means Besiktas remain fifth and are now five points off the top four.

Although his game still went ahead, Elneny has been aware that games in England have been suspended as well as the very real impact coronavirus has had on Arsenal.

Ahead of the trip to Galatasaray he posted a message on social media in support of his parent club and Mikel Arteta, who tested positive for coronavirus on March 12.

"I wish the best for everyone In the Arsenal Family and a quick recovery to Arteta," he wrote on his official Twiiter account.

"And I hope the rest of the team stay safe and healthy and I wish all the best and quick recovery for all the people who was tested positive may Allah cure you quickly."
