The Ole Gunnar Solskjaer comments that will delight Mikel Arteta and Arsenal fans

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praise on Arsenal's performance after the Gunners' victory against Manchester United.

The Gunners recorded a first home win in the Premier League for almost three months as they kicked off the new year in style with a 2-0 win against the Red Devils, with Nicolas Pepe and Sokratis on target.

It was Mikel Arteta's first win as Arsenal head coach since he was appointed as the permanent successor to Unai Emery, with the Gunners moving back into the top half with the victory, having started the new year in the bottom half after a poor run of form in recent weeks.

And Solskjaer made a frank admission after the game when assessing the performance of his side and the Gunners' display.

“They played really well," the Manchester United boss said, speaking to BBC programme Match of the Day about Arsenal's display.

“I felt they were really sharp, they were brighter than us, both on the ball and when they lost it, they won it back and they were quick.

“We had one or two touches too many and gave them opportunities to win it back.”

The win moved Arsenal to within four points of the Red Devils, who currently sit fifth in the Premier League with 31 points from 21 games so far this season.

Arsenal face Crystal Palace in their next Premier League game, but host Leeds United in the FA Cup third round on Monday night.
