The old bungalow in a Cardiff suburb that's been transformed into a row of luxury terraces

Parcels of land for sale for building new homes within Cardiff's most popular suburbs have now become rather rare. But that doesn't mean there aren't ways to create new properties, despite the lack of supply of potential building plots.

One of the most recent examples of inventive thinking by a local developer is the transformation of a period bungalow on the corner of a popular street into a brand new row of luxury terraces.

Traditionally suburban bungalows come with a substantial plot of land compared to its neighbours, and this single storey home in Whitchurch, Cardiff was no exception.

With the bonus of being located on a corner plot too, the bungalow had a very large garden that led to a rear lane; the perfect potential mini property development site.

That's what a local property company Woods Property (Whitchurch) Ltd thought.

As soon as planning was approved the bulldozers came to the site and the transformation from old house to new luxury homes began.

The plot of land that once housed the old bungalow now boasts a row of shiny new homes on a quiet residential street not far from Whitchurch Common and village centre.

The four homes within the terrace are all named after trees.

There's Oak House (Ty Derw), Willow House (Ty Helyg), Elm House (Ty Llwyfen) and the show home at the end of the terrace, called Cherry House (Ty Ceirios).

The houses are all three-storey, four bedroom properties, all with off-street parking for either one or two cars and a rear garden.

On the ground floor each house has a kitchen at the front of the property with integrated appliances and a lounge/diner at the rear which opens out onto the garden via bi-fold doors.

Also on this level is a cloakroom and two storage cupboards.

On the first floor there are three bedrooms, two of them doubles, and a family bathroom to discover.

Up to the second floor and the master suite occupies the complete space within the loft area.

This private and peaceful space at the top of the home includes n ensuite shower room with classic metro tiles in soft grey complemented by funky 'on trend' patterned floor tiles.

The interior design throughout the show homes is contemporary mixed with classic design elements such as a Shaker style kitchen and the use of quality materials such as wooden flooring.

The colour palette of white, shades of grey and 'pops' of accent colours in contemporary shades results in a show home that visually states modern luxury.

Texture within an interiors scheme is imperative to bring warmth and depth to a room.

Within this particular show home subtly textured wallpaper, metallic surfaces, velvet fabric and the limited use of bold patterns all provide visual interest as well as texture.

Cushions, throws, fabric headboards, thick pile rugs and solid wood furniture all play their part within the texture context.

And if a new owner is impressed with the interior design within the show home, the furniture, fabrics and accessories are all up for grabs too.

All a potential buyer needs to do is negotiate a separate price for the contents of the house with the seller, and then turn up and turn the key to start living.

They will have to bring their own bottle opener and television though.

Three of the four houses are now either sold or reserved since they were put on the market in September, so if anyone is considering a move to the street to live on the site of the former bungalow, they will need to move quickly; literally.

The show home is on the market for offers in excess of £365,000 with Chambers Estate Agent, give them a call on 029 2052 2106 to find out more.
