To quote Michael Scott himself: “Oh my god! Okay, it’s happening!! Everybody stay calm!!!” Yep, The Office spinoff that was announced back in 2023 has announced its title and dropped a first look!
The follow-up series will be titledThe Paper, as an obvious nod to Dunder Mifflin, the paper company on the series it’s based on.
Read on for everything we know about the hotly anticipated revival of The Office.
What is The Office revival The Paper about?
If you’re hoping to see all your faves back in action, I regret to inform you that the series features a whole new workplace with a whole new cast (except for one straggler – more on that soon!).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Paper follows a publisher (played by Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson) and the staff of “a historic but struggling newspaper in Toledo, Ohio”.

The mockumentary series will be brought to you by the same peeps that made The Office – Greg Daniels and Michael Koman – so you’re in good hands!
“It’s about this struggling Midwestern newspaper that’s much reduced from its glory days,” Daniels told the publication.
“A lot of the story lines are about how this guy, Domhnall Gleeson’s character, is trying to restore this paper, and he just doesn’t have the budget for hiring reporters, and he has to use all the staff that work there on a volunteer basis to be reporters.
“They’re completely untrained and don’t know what they’re doing. It’s a fruitful premise. There’s a tremendous history for local papers. The villain here is the internet and the ability to look at everybody’s news for free, and all the ad revenue going to Google.”
Who is in the cast?
In addition to the aforementioned Gleeson, original star of The Office Oscar Nuñez will reprise his role as Oscar Martinez in the follow-up series.
The series also stars Sabrina Impacciatore who you’ll remember as the cunty hotel manager from The White Lotus season two. Who could forget her iconic “Peppa Pig” moment, which the actress improvised. Comedic timing certainly bodes well for the workplace comedy, now doesn’t it?

The Paper also stars Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key, along with Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim and Tracy Letts in guest roles.
Gleeson, Nuñez and Impacciatore appeared together on-stage at NBC’s Upfronts where they unveiled the series and discussed its location.
Nuñez said: “Greg heard me and moved Oscar to Toledo, Ohio, which has three times the population of Scranton. So it’s nice to be heard.”
It was also revealed that most of the original crew will be working on The Paper, so there’ll defs be call-backs to the Michael Scott days.
When will it be released?
The Paper is set to drop this September in the US so it’ll probs drop around then in Australia as well. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, do yourselves a favour and check out the Aussie version of The Office on Prime Video. It’s a bloody hoot and a half!
