Christopher Nolan was right when he said Gen Z was definitely going to see The Odyssey, as IMAX 70mm screenings of the movie have been given a nearly 30-day extension due to "historic" demand.
According to Forbes, the epic fantasy film has been extended through September 16. It would likely be longer if it weren't for Zach Cregger's Resident Evil, which is set to begin screening in IMAX on September 18. The reason for the extension? There are only 25 theaters in the United States that support IMAX 70mm, which is why every single showing in every single city keeps rapidly selling out (and I personally haven't been able to find one in the greater New York area that isn't at 7:00 AM).
It's worth noting that The Odyssey was also filmed specifically for IMAX. Star Tom Holland reportedly thought Nolan was unhappy with his acting as he kept yelling cut every three minutes, but that's because IMAX can only be filmed in three-minute increments.
The movie, based on Homer's epic poem, stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, king of Ithaca, who's just trying to get home after the Trojan War. The cast includes Anne Hathaway as his wife Penelope, Tom Holland as his son Telemachus, Lupita Nyong'o as Helen of Troy, Jon Bernthal as Helen's husband Menelaus, Charlize Theron as Calypso, and Zendaya as the Greek goddess Athena.
