The Octopus has been unmasked on Masked Singer and she's Welsh

The Masked Singer's Octopus has been revealed as a Welsh star.

In the final of the much-anticipated show, Katherine Jenkins was unmasked after failing to get through to the final with her version of Mary Poppins's Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

After weeks of anticipation the identities of Hedgehog and Queen Bee are still yet to be unmasked in the hour and a half-long show.

But Jenkins was rumbled after initially confusing viewers with her seemingly both "Welsh" and "posh" accents and referencing Les Miserables and the piano.

Katherine Jenkins had been putting on an American accent at the start of the show (ITV)

Speaking after being unmasked, Jenkins, from Neath, admitted she had been keeping her striking operatic tones hidden away until later in the show and had been feigning an American accent.

And she revealed her costume choice was the perfect way to match her daughter's love of Blue Planet.

She said: "She loves blue planet, she loves Little Mermaid, she loves the colour purple and any time I came out as the octopus I felt like I was singing to her. I'm not going to get emotional..."

Before taking on her last song, she said: "Whatever happens I'm going to enjoy being the Octopus one last time."

Denise Van Outen worked out who the Masked Singer finalists are

Previously viewers had suspected Octopus could have been fellow Welsh singer Charlotte Church or even Susan Boyle.

Octopus made it through to the final after fighting off the likes of Patsy Palmer, Alan Johnson, Justin Hawkins, Teddy Sheringham, Kelis, Skin, Jake Shears, Denise Van Outen and Cee Lo Green behind their secret costumes.

And the contestants made a grand return on the final with a group rendition of the Greatest Show from Greatest Showman.
