London has been placed into Tier 2 coronavirus restrictions once lockdown ends on December 2, meaning Chelsea fans can return to matches at Stamford Bridge in a limited number.
After being placed in Tier 2, that means up to 2,000 fans can be attendance at games in the capital after December 2. The Blues’ first home game that fans can watch in person will be the match against Leeds United on December 5.
Frank Lampard’s team do have a home game on the 2nd but that is away at Sevilla in the Champions League.
Blues fans have not been able to attend games since March when the United Kingdom went into lockdown and all matches have been played behind closed doors ever since.
Manager Lampard was asked about the return of supporters to matches after Chelsea secured qualification for the round of 16 in the Champions League.
I think first and foremost we want fans back,’ he said. ‘I’m not sure exactly how the system will work, it’s something that needs to be discussed further, but what was really nice for me was the positive nature of the fact that there’s movement and something will happen if it feels safe.
‘That’s the most important thing because these are very uncertain times. So hopefully the level playing field remains, but we have some fans back and we move forward quickly.
‘I’m just happy with the news because there are a lot of things that have been disrupted in life recently, which are more important than football. But in football, just in terms of our jobs and playing in stadiums and wanting fans back for the atmosphere in football, what it means for the fans, it is becoming more and more apparent every game that we play. So, if safe, then of course we’re really happy.’
