The number of Covid-19 cases in your area as the North East records the highest rates in England

Rising coronavirus cases have left the North East with the highest infection rate in England.

Across the region, the rate of Covid-19 per 100,000 people stood at 349.8 as of June 27 - a 100% increase on the previous week.

The figure was significantly higher than in the North West, the next worst-hit region, with 328 cases per 100,000.

Now, the latest Public Health England figures showing the exact case rate for each local authority reveal that Newcastle has the second-highest rate of Covid cases in the entire country, after hundreds of new cases were detected in the city.

Every part of the country has seen an increase in cases, in many cases jumping by over 100%.

However, hospitalisation figures paint a more positive picture: despite the high rates, a total of 1,720 were in hospital in the UK as a result of the virus on June 29.

Here are the exact figures for each part of the region:

The list reads as follows: Ranking compared to other local authorities in England; local authority name; infection rate per 100,000 for the seven days to June 27; total number of cases; total number increase compared to previous seven days; percentage change on previous seven days
