The number of councillors in Merthyr could be cut under new proposals

The number of councillors in Merthyr Tydfil could be cut under new proposals.

The Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales wants to reduce the number county councillor from 33 to 30.

Three electoral wards out of 11 would also be effected under the plans.

If implemented, Dowlais would have three councillors instead of four, Gurnos ' would reduce from four to three and Park would go from three to two.

There would also name changes -with Plymouth becoming Troed-y-rhiw ,  Merthyr Vale changing to Ynysowen and Vaynor being renamed Faenor.

A 12-week consultation on the plans starts on April 23.
