With a massive throng of people now subject to the stay-at-home orders of the snap Sydney Lockdown, confusion is rife as to what it means and, more importantly, who can visit whom and when. Crucially, NSW officials have been quick to provide some clarification on what it means for those within the lockdown LGAs who don’t necessarily live with an intimate partner. And in that regard, there’s some good news.
NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant was quick to confirm that intimate partners residing within the lockdown zone will be able to visit one another, provided that does not require going further than the current travel restrictions in place across much of Sydney.
Fronting media a short time ago, Chant stated “we always have some components which are around intimate partner visits, and that will extend in this circumstance.”
There are some reports – though it hasn’t been explicitly confirmed by the Government at this stage – that this allowance does not apply if you or your partner lives outside of the Greater Sydney area. Residents within the Sydney, Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick, Canada Bay, Inner West, and Bayside LGAs are not permitted to travel outside of the greater metro Sydney region at present.
Broadly speaking, no further private gathering limits have been placed on the lockdown LGAs – Sydney, Waverley, Woollahra, and Randwick – beyond the existing five person-per-day limit already in place. Official advice from the NSW Government asserts that people should “limit unnecessary activity and avoid large gatherings” over the coming days.
Within the lockdown LGAs there will only be four permitted reasons to leave the house:
- Shopping for food or other essential goods and services
- Medical care or compassionate needs
- Exercise outdoors in groups of 10 or fewer
- Essential work, or education, where you cannot work or study from home.
Further Government clarification on the specifics of these lockdown orders, including advice regarding intimate partner visits or single-person bubbles, is expected to follow.
