The Nottingham takeaway that's been voted the best in East Midlands twice

A Nottingham takeaway is celebrating after being named the best in the East Midlands at a star-studded ceremony - for the second time.

Rikshaw Urban Indian Kitchen, in Mansfield Road, Sherwood, triumphed at this week's Best British Takeaway Awards, presented at the Savoy Hotel in London.

Last year the new-style Indian food outlet, which puts emphasis on healthy dishes cooked in an open kitchen, took the East Midlands crown at the English Curry Awards in Birmingham.

Rikshaw was also a finalist in the Indian restaurant category at the 2019 NottinghamshireLive Food and Drink Awards.

Earlier this month the business revealed expansion plans to open a 100-seater restaurant in Trinity Square around Easter time.

One takeaway fan described the food as light, healthy, and value for money. Another: "The food is utterly delicious with subtle flavours and so much to choose from."

Owner Shani Shafiq said: "We are very fortunate to hold such awards especially now we are growing our amazing business into the Nottingham city centre.

This award will help us to create success and offer customers an even better experience than before.

"Success comes from motivation and hard work. We was already working hard and that got us these awards, now the motivation from these awards will drive our Rikshaw brand to more success. We are proud of our team and thank all our amazing customers!"
