The Nottingham Forest players who failed to live up to the hype

Nottingham Forest may have had some great players down the years, but others did not quite live up to the hype.

Whether the player was injured, didn’t suit the manager’s style of play, or just did not work out, whatever the reason, the Reds have had players that failed to live up to the expectations.

That is not to say the player did not perform well during their time at the City Ground, rather the fan expectation was higher than was actually delivered.

Here is a selection of what Forest fans had to say when we asked which player failed to match the hype following their arrival.

Liam Davis: “Honorary mentions to most McClaren signings (Miller, Derbyshire, Greening, Boateng) and any big name veteran (Andy Cole, Neil Lennon) but number one for me is...Marlon King.”

Stephen McGubbin: “So many but probably for me in my time has to be the 3 Portuguese lads Goncalves, Dias and Carvalho.”

Ben Mulvaney: “Any of the three Italians Platt signed, most of Megsons, Neil Harris, Scott Dobbie, Eugene Dadi. But one regret I have is John Sheridan, saw him make debut in cup game midweek and never played again, always thought was a good player.”

Patrick Smith: “About 60% of new players in recent years sadly.”

Philip Hardy: “Too many to list.”

Daneil Barnett: “Only on loan but Barmby I expected more from.”

Sam Collishaw: “The lord Bendtner.”

Nick Dosanjh: “Nikola Jerkan, Robbie Findley, Federico Marcheda. So many names could go here.”
